A fire occurred in Gem Village, a small community in Davao City just a short distance from our headquarters in Ma-a. I was notified of this fire late on February 12, 2023, by a United Families for Humanities, Inc. team member, from Gem Village. She notified me, asking for UFFHI to set up an activity to assist the families who lost so much. We know that fourteen (14) homes were lost, with a few additional homes receiving some damage. Twenty-one (21) families were displaced, involving nearly 100 people. Many of the displaced were school-aged and young children. We posted our story on Facebook and Instagram accounts asking for donations, and now we are adding it to our organizational website. To date, we have collected a few monetary and in-kind clothing donations. We are planning a small event at the Gem Village Basketball Court on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 9 am to meet the families and distribute the donated clothing and food packs. If we continue to collect donations, we will use them for additional food packs. Thanks so much to those that have donated; we kindly ask for donations to help these families that lost so much. On February 18, 2023, we conducted a Gem Village Fire Outreach Activity for the people of Gem Village that were affected by the fire. We prepared and distributed food packs for each family consisting of rice, noodles, canned goods, and candy. We also collected some clothing donations and were able to pass those out during the event. Thanks to all those that donated monetary or in-kind goods. The families from Gem Village were delighted to receive the food packs and clothing. If we can collect more donations or clothing, we will prepare more food packs and provide them to the wonderful families at Gem Village. Thanks, and God bless our team of volunteers and donors.
